Subject: [bristol-birds] Curious wren behavior

Bristol Area Birders:

A couple of days ago I watched very curious behavior
from a small group of Carolina Wrens in my yard in
Birstol TN.

I was in my driveway when two wrens started fussing
as if they had found a snake or other predator.
I soon realized they were actually fussing at each
other. They began to chase each other about the
low growth. This is when I noticed a couple of other
Carolina Wrens arriving at the fuss and one of those
began to chase the others.

I eventually counted six wrens fussing in the immediate
area. Then one broke into full Carolina Wren song.
The original two birds chasing and fussing began to
fight and fell to the ground in a struggle.

All of the other wrens began to sing and I watched
four Carolina Wrens in full song while two were in
a full fight. Soon the fight broke up with no one
appearing to be injured and all the singing and
fussing stopped.

Mercy!
