Area Birders, The Breaks CBC, which encompasses parts of Buchanan and Dickenson Counties with a small area in KY, took place on Saturday, Dec. 18. Eight Buchanan County Bird Club members participated. The weather was fantastic and the record of 61 species was broken with 62 species counted. Too bad we don't have any large bodies of water in the area to be able to add waterfowl numbers to the list. The most unusual species found was a MERLIN, which was spotted by Ed Talbott III during count week. Unfortunately we had several missed species, including Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey, Screech Owl, Great Horned Owl and Brown Creeper. One big surprise was finding a Great Blue Heron standing on a frozen mudhole on a mountain top road. Enjoy the birds, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA Buchanan County Bird Club ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST Bristol Birds Net Photo Gallery located at: http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jwcoffeyy/album?.dir=/efd5 This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. -------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to Bristol-Birds.
