Waiting On The Water

Birders have a warm and delicious future ahead

while afield at Boone Lake. It's a destination.

Boonies log at Davis Marina.jpgA delightful restaurant

has opened at the mouth

of Beaver Creek and its

confluence with the South

Fork Holston River embayment

of Boone Lake in eastern

Sullivan County, TN.

We've always called this birding location Davis Dock or

Davis Marina. It is just down Beaver Creek from TN Route

394 and the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department. Turn right

at the BTES power station and Buffalo Ruritan Club.

In mid-March, Michele Sparks post to Bristol-Birds that

Johnny and Amy Morris are the new owners of the restaurant

and Johnny went all the way to Duck, NC to purchase the

brick oven to make his Pizza. They are serving Pizza, Subs,

Salads, Burgers, Calzones, Chicken Tender baskets,

Grilled Chicken breast, Chicken wings and all kinds of goodies

from the fryer. The menu is long and interesting.

Breakfast is served all day, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with Sunday

hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The breakfast menu is

extensive with everything you want. Closed on Monday.

One of their chefs has just moved over from Littly Italy's on

U.S. 421 and the downtown Bristol 6th street restaurant.

Some of the wait staff is from Blue Circle. Pizzas are served

after 11 a.m.

Johnny and Amy are

building a new home

3 minutes away from

the marina.

Boonies Restaurant had an excellent fireworks show

and a very large crowd for July 4. They may have live

music in the future.

Boonies Restaurant and Pizzeria at Davis Marina is

a place well recommended.

They are birder friendly folks and talk about the

Bald Eagles and waterfowl they have seen from the

long and wide porch. This is the kind of place you

can carry your scope upon the porch in inclement

weather and catch a bite to eat or drink while taking

in the good birding which is usually there

A once-up-on-a-time good bird seen from their

now-paved parking lot was a Brown Pelican in 2009.

You can go figure about the other good birds.

Nancy and I had lunch there today.
