This morning I looked out and saw a blackbird on the fence. Ho-hum. On well, I may as well look at it through the binoculars. What is this? I see a large white patch on the rump and white on the wings. Then he turned his head and there was a large yellow patch on the back of the head. I called for my sister, Wilma, to come and see if she could identify it. She made a guess at its being a yellow-headed blackbird. We checked Sibley's and ruled that out ---not enough yellow on the head. Turn back a page and there was our answer. A male Bobolink. This is a life bird for us. Sometimes when you are paying attention to the ordinary, God shows you the unusual!
