US 421boat ramp loading dock South Holston Lake.jpg

This photo shows the US 421 boat access area loading dock where birders will
board two float boats for a

wonderful Saturday morning after Thanksgiving Float Boat Field Trip looking
for water birds on South

Holston Lake. The Bristol Bird Club event will spend the morning birding
areas of the the lake which are

not otherwise easily birded from the shoreline. Birders boarding the two
float boats will walk out onto the

loading dock over a wide and secured walkway which has a safety handrail to
provide stability and security.

The float boats will be moored and secured to the dock at the middle walkway
which has a safe and secure

handrail so birders can maintain balance and confidence as they step aboard
the boats at dock level. You do

do not have to climb up or down onto the float boats. Due to the 18 birders
who have made reservations,

we will have persons to assist anyone boarding or disembarking boats. This
will be the sixth such float boat

field trip sponsored and provided for birders by the club in nearly 20
years. There will be more than enough

life jackets and refreshments and the trip is free to all who have
registered. (Photo by Wallace Coffey)
