Today, I did some birding around Steele Creek Park and noticed that some
early spring migrants have already returned to the park. All seven
indigenous woodpeckers were out and about today, as well. Here are some of
the notable birds:
Yellow-throated Warbler - x1 (Male singing ardently in pine stand on top of
the hill above the main road.)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - x1 (Same place as YTWA; singing male.)
Purple Martins - >x10 (Flying over the lake and squabbling around the
martin houses. Also mobbed a Cooper’s Hawk flying over the lake.)
Red-headed Woodpecker -x1 (Heard calling as it flew overhead in the pine
grove beside the disc golf course; where the immature bird has been hanging
out this winter.)
Brown-headed Cowbirds (Displaying in deciduous canopy over Nature Center.)
Chipping Sparrows (In pairs.)
