South Holston Lake

BBC members enjoyed a splendid day aboard the DAY CRAWLER pontoon boat with
Captain Wallace Coffey and his First Mate Sam Cross. For over two and a half
hours gulls, loons, grebes, and waterfowl were observed in close range. Other
participants included: Kevin Elam, Janice Martin, Mary Erwin, Judy Roach, Ruth
Smith, and Rack Cross.

Below is our list:
Herring Gull 4 (near S.H. Dam)

Here are notes forwarded to me by Wallace Coffey:
We birded the open waters around Musick's Campground in Sullivan Co., TN,
Spring Creek Embayment in Washington Co., VA and the mouth of Spring Creek near
Va. Rt. 75.
We then headed down the lake into Sullivan Co., TN below U.S. 421 bridge to
include Brown's Bottom, South Holton Dam and portions of Riddle Creek
Embayment, Big Creek, Josiaha Creek, Fishdam Creek, Little Oak Campground and
Cliff
Island.

At Little Oak Campground near the launching ramp we visited the Bald Eagle
hacking tower which is still in good shape standing near the waters edge. The
tower was used to hack 30 young eagles in the summers of 1991-1994 by the U.S.
Forest Service, Tennessee Tech University and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources
Agency.
End notes.

'Til we bird again
