February 16, 2008 [posted February 17, 2008] Internet problems kept me from posting this yesterday. Sorry about the delay. I spent a couple of hours in Hawkins County south of the Holston River on Saturday the 16th, most of the time at John Sevier Fossil Plant (JSFP) and areas nearby. Notable finds included the following: Gadwall; Ring-necked Duck; American White Pelican (at JSFP, above the spillway); Great Blue Heron (9 on nests about a mile or so below JSFP); American Kestrel (5); Ring-billed Gull (18); Tree Swallow (5 on the Holston River between JSFP and the Hugh B. Day Bridge); American Pipit; Swamp Sparrow (2).
