Make plans to attend an amazing beer and cheese benefit tasting on Sunday, June 1. What is so special about this tasting? Owen Ogletree will host this event which will match NINE high flavor/high gravity beers with NINE rich cheeses. Call Owen now to reserve your place. Our tentative beer list includes some of the world's very best beers: - Fullers Vintage Ale is a rich ale from the Fullers Brewery in London. It is their highest alcohol offering and is a beer with flavors of plum, raisin, caramel, and English hops. This beer will be paired with English Stilton cheese. - Dogwood Winter Beer 2001 was made in Atlanta by Dogwood Brewing Company. It is a potent beer done in the style of a Belgian Tripel. It is golden in color and exhibits complex notes of spice, alcohol, and hops. This beer will be paired with an authentic Parmigiano Reggiano (the undisputed "king of cheeses"). - Chimay Grand Reserve is one of the best and most famous of all Belgian Trappist (abbey) ales. It has a mighty 9% alcohol content and has thick flavors of plum, toffee, and caramel. This beer will be paired with Chimay cheese from the abbey that has been soaked and aged in Chimay beer. - Celebrator Double Bock is a strong, dark lager beer from the Ayinger Brewery near Munich, Germany. It is more dark in color and caramel-like in flavor than a typical Double Bock. This beer will be paired with Gruyere cheese that has marvelous earthy, nutty flavors. - Sam Smith's Imperial Stout is a black, roasty Stout that is made with a large amount of malt and a special yeast strain. This produces a Stout that is high in alcohol and rich in fruity flavors. This beer will be paired with a creamy, dessert Brie. - Jahrhundert is an anniversary beer from the Ayinger Brewery. It is a very malty, Pilsner-type lager. This beer will be paired with an aged White Cheddar. - Traquair House Scotch Ale is produced in a tiny brewery in Scotland that is on record as being one of the oldest houses in Scotland. It is regarded worldwide as one of the most flavorful Scotch Ales produced today. It is extremely warming with malty caramel and butterscotch undertones. This beer will be paired with a delightful Banon cheese that is wrapped and aged in chestnut leaves. - Troubador is a mild version of a Belgian Golden Ale. It has a great balance of spicy and fruity flavors and aromas. This beer will be paired with a smoked Gouda. - Aventinus is a dark wheat beer that is made with so much malt that the alcohol and flavor levels are very high. This complex beer has intense flavors of clove and banana that will go extremely well with an aged Provolone cheese. Taste all these remarkable beers (most of which are unavailable in Georgia because of outdated state alcohol laws). This will be too delicious and educational to miss, and all proceeds will benefit the efforts of "Georgians for World Class Beer" to update Georgia's beer laws to allow sales of higher alcohol, gourmet beers in the state (see http://www.beerinfo.com/worldclassbeer). A donation of only $25 per person will get you beer, cheese, and a taster glass. Call Owen Ogletree at 706-254-BREW to charge your donation by phone today and reserve your spot. You may also make a reservation in person at Five Points Bottle Shop in Athens. Hurry, there are only a few seats remaining! Cosponsored by: Merchant Du Vin beer importers (Seattle), Thunderhead Distribution (Atlanta), EarthFare supermarkets, the Classic City Brew Fest and Five Points Bottle Shop (Athens).
