You can't open Word files directly with BB. I usually copy the text I want in
Braille out of Word or any other application and then paste it into BB. Then
you can edit and format the Braille the way you want.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [brailleblaster] BB and Word Files?
Hi, Everyone.
I'm new to the list and to Braille Blaster. I'm impressed with the
program and what it's capabilities are. I haven't begun to work with
it yet, but am excited to start. I have read the Help documentation
and am needing clarification.
I know that BB works with text files.
I have a Word file that I want to translate and save as a .brf, as
well as emboss. Can I open it directly with Braille Blaster, or does
it need to be saved in another format to work with this program?
Thanks,
Dani
