Things like ham calls, or an acronym for a group I discovered a few weeks ago--I forgot its name--called SHAPE.

How do you force certain symbols or words--such as acronyms--not to be translated into grade two? Thanks.

Hi Daveed,

If I understand your question correctly, yes. If you are using grade 2 input you will see grade 2 output on the braille display but if you save the document as .txt and send it to some one as a e-mail or print the file it will look normal for sighted people. The only thing that will make it look weird to sighted people is if you save the file as a .brl file. Also if you have your file options set for .txt in the options menu, you can press w for word processor and you are ready to type in a file called nomane.txt so you don't have to go through the process of opening a new file before you can start typing.

Can you set the input grade independently from the output grade? When I open the word processor, canI braille in grade 2 without fear? On the Pac Mate, if you save a file as text, you can't braille in grade two, because it's looking for computer braille, or rather, print, so to speak. So if I save a blank file, just to make sure I have a saved file ready, and it is a textfile, can I go back into it and type in grade two? If I want to read it, can I read it in grade two even if it is a textfile? Thanks.

Hi Daveed,

I would save the original file in .txt format. When you open the save as dialog, press tab and you will be in the file type dialog. When you use the Braille Sense, you can type in grade 1 2 or ASCII. You can change on the fly by pressing space-g to cycle through the choices. this only affects the input from the keyboard and the out put from the Braille display not the actual document. Once you save the file in .brl, you can not back translate it. Also with the new beta, in the options menu, you can choose your default file format for your documents.

Robert: How does one save the file in different formats? Suppose I want to write a script for a news story or newscast. What initial format should I braille it in? I braille, of ocurse, in Grade Two. Then, how can I change it to another format? Can I save it in more than one format? Would I write the initial script in the HBL format? Thanks.

Hi Anne,
If you are typing a document and want to saber it in a different folder, press space- s for save as. type the name of the file and press shift tab, this will put you in the file list which will be your work folder. To choose a different folder, press backspace, you will see work 1 of 9. press up or down arrow to choose the new folder and press enter to open that folder, then tab to save and press enter.

In the situation you described about selecting the file to cut and paste, you need to press space bar once you have the file highlighted to select it. Example, to cut a file called test in your work folder, go to that folder, arrow up or down to the file, you can also move to a file quickly by typing the first letter of the file name, once the file appears on the display or when you hear the correct name press space bar to select it. Then you can cut, copy and paste.

Hope this helps.

Robert

Good morning, afternoon or evening depending on where you are located! My
Braille Sense is operating again. Hope it stays that way.

I created a folder for documents other than the work folder. When I wrote a document to place into the new folder (tipsnet) and saved it, I did not find any way to choose the folder in which to save the document. Into the work folder it went. I wanted to move it into the tipsnet folder. I selected it, copied it to the clipboard (or so I thought) and attempted to paste it into the tipsnet folder. Apparently, nothing copied to the clipboard. When I selected the document, I simply pointed to it as I do in my computer. Do I need an additional command to get the job done? Am I missing something in
the save process?

Thanks and have a great day.
