Evan,

you can find the latest version of the software on Freedomscientific's web
site. Here is the link:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_products/PACmate_BookShare_Unpack.asp

The installation is easy. Download the file as listed on the web page
above. Connect your packmate to the computer and establish a standard
partnership. But I assume you already have that set up. From the PC end,
find the file you downloaded and press enter. Follow the prompts for
installation.

The program runs quite smoothly on the packmate. It has a similar interface
to that found on the PC version.

HTH. Let me know if you have more questions.

Pratik

I don't think I have one on my out-of-date version. But where would I look
for it if I did have it? I might, although I haven't seen it.

Evan and any others who own PAC Mates,
don't forget that you can use the Unpack utility on the PAC Mate and unpack
the book directly to a compact flash card. This would let you get the books
"on the fly" by using WIFI or some other connectivity and still read them on
your pc using a card reader.

Have a great week, all.

I use a Pac Mate, so I don't know if this applies, but I download books to
my PC and then copy them over to my Pac Mate so I can carry them around. So
I can read books by attaching a Braille display to my PC, or transfering a
copy to my Pac Mate both without downloading twice from Bookshare. I would
imagine you should be able to do the same. So when you get your Note Taker,
I would guess that you can just copy the books you already have downloaded
over to it, then download any new books directly to your Note Taker if you
want.

If your question was more of a legal nature, I don't think there's anything
illegal about having a copy on your PC and one on a portable device like a
Note Taker or a Pac Mate. If there is, well, then I guess I just admitted
publicly to criminal activity! <grin> I guess I'll find out soon enough
whether I'm in the dock.

Hello again
Is there anyone who downloads books in braille on a notetaker and at other
times uses their pc? I was just wondering if there is anyone who does that.
Right now I am downloading the books on to my pc. I will soon be
downloading them on to my notetaker when it comes back.
Do I need to download the books again if I want them for my notetaker even
if they are already on my pc?
Thanks as always for your help as I learn to navigate this exciting new
world.
Bookshare is so cool. I never thought a day would come when I would be able
to own lots of books in a format I could use. It was always a dream but one
I didn't think would ever be realized.
