While Bookshare's official policy may not require one to scan and submit = a book with indecies, but I find them essential when researching material. One of the reasons why I'm absolutely against RFBD is that because the organization believes that there is no use for these items. For those = books whose authors/editors have deemed it necessary to include and index, generally someone will find a use for it. I generally try to do as much = as I can to ensure that the index is as usable as I can make it. =20 Pratik Pratik Patel Interim Director Office of Special Services Queens College Director CUNY Assistive Technology Services The City University of New York ppatel@xxxxxx =20 -----Original Message----- From: Cindy [mailto:popularplace@xxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Monday, January 17, 2005 1:34 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Re: [bksvol-discuss] Indecies and such Brian, I used to worry about that. Actually, the scans in books I validated were readable but the formatting was not right. I just put a note in the long synopsis that if any reader needed the index of bibliography to contact me and I'd get the book and fix them. However, a while ago we were told that we didn't have to worry about indices ot bibliographies, and I heaved a great sigh or relief! If you'e scanning, I'd scan them, because, as I said, they are frequenly readable, even with a lot of errors, but if you're validating, I wouldn't bother.
