Hello Listers, The next meeting of the Science Fiction Club will be on Thursday, July 10, 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific. We'll be talking about a book that has been newly added to the Bookshare collection and that Bob posted about last week: The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume III, Nebula Award Winners 1965-1969 edited by Arthur C. Clarke and George W. Proctor, and with an introduction by Arthur C. Clarke. You can get your copy at http://www.bookshare.org/web/SingleTitle.html?submittitleid=51386 I am especially excited about reading this because there are a couple classics in here that I am looking forward to rereading after many years, and several great works that I haven't read before. So I hope you will join us on July 10 at 9 Eastern, 6 Pacific, whether you're a Science Fiction fan, or this is your first time checking out the genre. The decade of the sixties, especially the latter half, was a time of great cultural ferment, and Science Fiction was no exception. This book contains a great diversity of work, of literary style and themes. The Nebula Award is given out by the Science Fiction Writers of America. The stories in this volume were considered by fellow writers to be the best of the year in their respective categories. Like any other genre, opinions may vary from one person to another with respect to any specific story, but most of those here are generally agreed to be classics today. The nice thing about an anthology is that, unlike a novel, you don't have to read it from beginning to end, or in any particular order for that matter. If one story doesn't work for you, try another. There is a tremendous range of work here, from authors who had been established for decades, to newcomers with extraordinary talent who would go on to become masters in the field in succeeding decades. And, of course, there is the introduction by one of the greatest of all time. Hope to see lots of people there. Evan
