Tek Talk welcomesMyrna Votta and Andrea Deklotz to speak to our worldwide
Tek Talk audience on the topic: "Technology at the National Convention of
the American Council of the Blind."

Myrna Votta

At an ACB convention, there are several opportunities to learn about new and
existing assistive devices, apps, and low tech gadgets.  The program is
filled with many presentations by vendors, the exhibit hall gives people the
chance to have hands-on experience, and one can learn a great deal by
networking with other attendees.  I spent a great deal of my time at the
convention doing all of the above and I would like to tell you what I

heard and actually touched.

About me:

I have been obsessed with using and teaching assistive technology since
1980, when I discovered the Optacon and how it made my life more
independent.  I first taught at the Lighthouse in New York, then was a tech
support specialist with Humanware and now, although I am supposed to be
retired, I do have a few students and I also test hardware and software for
a few companies.

Andrea Deklotz

My name is Andrea DeKlotz.   I have  worked in the area of
blindness-oriented technology since 2004. I am primarily a jaws and
windows-based trainer, but have also worked with students using braille
notetakers and IOS devices. I taught at Cypress -munity college from 2004 to
2009, and am currently employed  by Access Ingenuity of Santa Rosa
California, a licensed vendor with the California department of  rehabilitN.
I live in Orange and am currently president of the Orange County chapter of
the California Council of the blind, as well as serving as co-chair of
the state technology affiliate of the  Council of the blind.
I will discuss what I learned while speaking with vendors as well as
attending technology presentations and the general sessions

If you are a first-time user of the Talking Communities Online Conferencing
software, there is a small, safe software program that you need to download
and then run. A link to the software is available on every entry screen to
the Accessible World online rooms.

All online interactive programs are free of charge, and open to anyone
worldwide having an Internet connection, a computer, speakers, and a sound
card. Those with microphones can interact audibly with the presenters and
others in the virtual audience or text chat with the attendees. To speak to
us, hold down the control key until you hear a chirp and then talk; then let
up to release the microphone and listen.

Accessible World uses News Wires, like this one, to inform people of the
topic and times for the many Discussion Groups on Accessible World. The
lists are announced only to keep the traffic to a minimum.

You can join the Accessible World one-way Announce List by sending an email
to: aw-announcements+subscribe@xxxxxxxxx

Accessible World also provides a Tek Talk Discussion List. This list is
intended to give you an opportunity to ask computer-related questions,
suggest topics to be used in the weekly Monday Training Programs, or just to
interact with others interested in using assistive devices to access
computers. You may sign up for this list by writing a blank letter to:
