Tek Talk Welcomes Allison Hilliker, Customer Specialist, Bookshare

Allison Hilliker works as a Customer support Specialist for Benetech, the
nonprofit that runs the Bookshare.org website. She lives in the Phoenix
area and is the mom to 2 little girls. She and her husband, Darrell, are
both blind themselves and are co-creators of the blindaccessjournal.com blog
and podcast.
During Tech Talk, Allison will provide a brief overview of Bookshare, what
it offers, and how to get started with the service. She'll describe recent
developments in accessible formats including epub and Word files. She'll
talk about the most popular apps for iOS and Android, as well as tips for
reading on Kindle, Chromebooks, and the NLS digital player. She'll give some
love to braille and explain how you can get more of it under your
fingertips. She'll share hints and tricks for finding new books to read and
improving discoverability on the site through public Reading Lists. She'll
wet your thirst for knowledge about Marikesh and its impact on global
literacy. Lastly, she'll talk about how individuals can get involved through
volunteering and scanning/proofreading books for the library.
