Last Tuesday almost everyone said they liked this Historical Novel, The
Night Watchman with it's strong family ties, demonstrating courage and
dedication. This story, based on her Grandfather's 1953 letters about the
Night Watchman's efforts to prevent the Predatory Bureau of Indian Affairs
from taking away their remaining lands and benefits, left over from the
conquering white society. Some members, however, did not finish the book
because of the graphic description of reservation poverty and long-standing
sexual exploitation and murder of Indian women in the neighboring cities.
However, after hearing the discussion and author interview on NPR's Fresh
Air, they said they were planning to re-read this story by this best-selling
Native American author of 17 other books.
Again, our thanks to David Faucheux who ably conducted Tuesday's meeting. He
selected the book, edited the NPR interview for the program using the
GOLDWAVE Software he purchased without benefit of the helpful, commercially
available scripts and tutorials.
