I also prefer email lists for a lot of reasons. They're easier for me to
handle, for one thing. Also, I truly resent this trend on the web which is
practically coercing people into using Face Book and Twitter. I don't want
to be part of Face Book in any way. I don't like its commercialism and its
false promise of social connectedness. As for Twitter, it's difficult
enough to communicate clearly and effectively with email. With the
limitations of Twitter, one's intention and communication can be so easily
misunderstood. The problem is that email lists have this tradition of being
closely monitored, but they don't have to be. Roger and I are members of a
list that is democratically controlled by its membership.

Perhaps, but I am far more concerned about having to read posts elsewhere.
Granted I have not checked the site details, but speaking only for myself,
i absolutely prefer having list posts come to me directly in my inbox.
Lets me keep track of discussions swiftly, and lets me save messages I
desire keeping in my own way.

correctly, it sounds like it will be more free wheeling than this list
is permitted to be these days.

It seems to me that this email list should be able to fulfill all the
functions that are mentioned in this announcement without creating
another discussion forum.

Get Ready for our Discussion Forum!
Dear Roger Loran,
My name is Nicholas Bowen, as many of you know I am the Customer
Service Manager for Bookshare. One thing that has troubled me some in
the nearly four years I've been at Bookshare is how fragmented our
great communities are. Bookshare is extraordinarily fortunate to have
an amazing group of highly knowledgeable and incredibly passionate
volunteers within each of our communities: the Bookshare volunteers,
the Bookshare Mentor Teachers, and the Bookshare Parent Ambassadors.
However, I believe that we can do even more by connecting these
communities with each other, and directly with the rest of the
Bookshare membership.
So as an experiment working with Vanessa Wai and the rest of the
Bookshare team, we are creating a Bookshare discussion forum. It's
intended to be a place where we can have a collective home for all of
Bookshare's incredible communities to interact within their respective
groups as well as connecting with the broader Bookshare community.
This forum is now ready for public beta testing, and we're inviting
you to be among the first to see it. Please visit
https://discussions.bookshare.org/
and log into your Bookshare account from the link on the top right. If
you do not have a Bookshare account simply sign up for the forum itself.
Feel free to make new posts, start new conversations, reply to other
content and use it as you wish. For any feedback on its usability
please don't hesitate to send me an email at feedback@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Best regards,
Nicholas Bowen
