Can anybody use Overdrive or do you have to have a special account with your library? For example my problem with NLS is their talking books come through the mail and I would rather just download them and listen to them right on the computer. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lana" <lana5@xxxxxxxxxxx>

It depends on where you are. Some talkingbook libraries in some states arepart of the unabridged library system. Some local libraries are as well. In otherwords, you don't need to be blind to use it, but, believe me, the number of books you can get nationally is far larger than those your local library might have; so check with your talkingbook library.I didn't explain that very well. With overdrive, people can checkout booksthat are available. As with a regular library, only so many copies of a book exist; so you might find a book that says "Place a hold." instead of "add to bookbag." When you go through a local library, they don't have nearly as many copies of books, and they don't have every book available. for instance, I actually have two accounts. One uses my NLS card number. The other uses my Weld County Colorado card number. Believe me, there are alot more books on the NLS listing than the Weld County one. There is talk of putting regular talkingbooks on a similar system. This isn't it. No telling what hoops we'll have to go through when that one comes along. Overdrive will not work on book port, but it will on the creative muvo 512mix. I got mine directly from Muvo, but Perkins has them, too. they are alittle strange, but usable. The best, though of course you'll pay a lot more for it, is the olympus DS 50. it has voice prompts and holds a whole gig in stead of only 512 megs. There is also something called a creative stone zen, or something like that. It's supposed to be good, but haven't tried it.Bottom line. If you are using bookshare with book port, and if you want togo to overdrive, you'll need something else. You can, of course, play it directly on your computer, but who wants to be tied down like that.I guess that's more than you ever wanted to know, but ignore what you don'twant. Good luck and happy reading.----- Original Message ----- From: "Monica Willyard" <rhyami@xxxxxxxxx>To: <bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, June 03, 2007 2:19 PM Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Re: Just Submitted The Copper ScrollYou're right, it does build on the previous books, and they are already on Bookshare. Duane Iverson has also submitted Epicenter, a book that builds on The Copper Scroll. Is Overdrive part of NLS? If not, how does one become a subscriber?
