Hello all,

I've been really behind in checking my messages lately. However, in going through them just now I came across this message from Monica and simply had to put in my own two thumbs up for paperbackswap. Many books I've scanned have just ended up in a box because the spines would get all busted up when scanning. SO, I couldn't resell them, not even at a garage sale. I hated the thought of tossing them out, as was suggested to me by some. According to paperbackswap, I've saved about $130 by swapping. And to me, that might as well be a million.

Anyway, as I said, simply had to add my own comments on this, belated as it was. Natalie B. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Monica Willyard" <plumlipstick@xxxxxxxxxx>

Hi, everybody. We've talked about sources for affordable books in the past, and I've found something that works really well. It's better than Amazon or Ebay if you're a bookworm like me. (smile) I'm especially excited because this service has both books and audiobooks. It's called Paperback Swap, and it's free to use. You simply list books you own and would like to trade. You get 3 credits when you post your first 9 books. From there, you can request books from other members, and they will send you the books in regular mail. They pay the postage, so your first 3 credits give you books that are free. When people request your books that you've listed, you print out the mailer, wrap up your book, and mail it. You pay the postage and can just put stamps on the package and put it in your normal mailbox unless you have a very large book to mail. When the person receives your book, you get a credit to use to request something else for yourself. Since you get to pick out books for yourself with your credits, you're actually getting each book for $1.59 or $3.18 for an audiobook. Audiobooks cost 2 credits while print books of any binding are just one credit. Can you beat that price at Amazon? Paperback Swap requires members to share books in good condition, so you can be sure the books will be in good shape for scanning. What's more, after you scan your book, you can post it and trade it for a new book to read. I've gotten 8 books this week from Paperback Swap, all in like new condition, and all in good shape for scanning and submitting to Bookshare. Laura Ann has gotten most of her last 30 Bookshare submissions from the site, and we've both made some neat friends there too. (smile) If you don't own a scanner, you can still use the service and just have your books mailed to a friend who has a scanner and who is willing to scan the books for you. If this sounds like something you'd want to check out, you can visit my page at

If you need help learning how to use the site, feel free to email me. The site owner is in the process of adding some accessibility features, and there are several blind people who are using the site successfully who can offer you a hand if you need it.
