The incest and being shut up in the attic were what I felt were too strong for the age my children were when they wanted to read it for some reason. I suppose some of their friends were. We're talking 6th-grade or below, maybe 4th or 5th. I didn't mind it or the sequel for myself, in a gruesome sort of way. But I don't select any other of her books for myself.
