It is now working. The reboot may have helped. I also must have had a loose USB cable somewhere in the chain because it didn't work immediately after the reboot. But I wiggled all connections and it suddenly took off. Thanks for the idea.

Try rebooting and see if that helps.  I have had this problem once and a
reboot fixed the problem.  I hope it works.

No problem updating both firmware and software. But now that I've done
it,
my book port is not beiong recognised by the PC when I plug it in.
Actually,

There are new beta versions of both firmware and software.  This is
some exciting stuff, and we may actually have fixed the lagging
pointer problem.  Check it out and let us know.
