I have been playing with the new beta all day today and must say you guys at
APH and the Bookport are absolutely the best! The access now available in
unindexed MP3 files is first-rate and the ability to get file info without
first hitting play removes one of my very few headaches with the product.
You just keep making a first-rate machine even better! Bookport rocks!

There is a new beta available of the firmware.

If you are already beta testing, you should get notified automatically or by
using the Check for Firmware Updates option in the Advanced tab of the
Options dialog, depending on have you have you defaults set.

If you are interested in beta testing, visit www.aph.org/beta .

Book Port Firmware Revision History

What's new in Book Port Firmware*
American Printing House for the Blind, Inc.

Revision History

When updating firmware, be aware that the unit announces several audio
messages, so when you disconnect the device from the USB port after a
firmware update, please have the earphones attached.

When the update process begins, you will hear, "Code Update Started, please
do not press any keys," then you will hear the numbers 1, 2, and 3. (There
will be a delay before you hear "3.")

After the code update, Book Port will reset itself, and you will hear its
startup message consisting of the message Book Port Ready followed by the
new version number.

After the version number announcement, the unit updates code and messages,
and you will hear a message for each of these. Finally, if the update
contains any Spanish pronunciation rules, the unit will announce that it is
uploading the Spanish rules. When this process is complete, the unit will
announce "done."

You are then ready to enjoy the new features.

Firmware Version 2.1.0.4 Beta, July 29, 2005

        * Added the ability to set bookmarks in unindexed audio files. The
resolution is one second, so if you try to set a bookmark within one second
of an existing bookmark, the command will actually clear the existing
bookmark.

        * Alters the way the folder name is announced when attempting to read
files
in an empty folder. Before, the unit provided the short name and the entire
path, now, the firmware announces only the name of the empty folder.

        * Provides extended statistics on a file when the user presses the 8 key
regardless of whether the file had been played or not. This corrects a
longstanding issue that required you to have pressed the play key at least
once before you could obtain statistics.

        * Changes the beeps to spoken announcements when the user sets or
clears a
bookmark.

        * Adds the command "Announce Elapsed Time." This is accessed with the 5
key in both idle and reading mode for audio files.

        * Changes the behavior of the To and From Notes Command. Now, you do
not
need to close the note before issueing the command.

        * Adds the Lock and Unlock command while in the notetaker.

        * Announces the folder's name when the folder is empty.

        * Adds the Power move commands to unindexed mp3 files.

        * Adds the announcement of elapsed time in status for unindexed mp3
files.

        * Adds the Move File command to move a file from one folder to another.

        * Bug fix: If the user tries to lock a file in an empty folder, the
unit
doesn't say that there are no files to lock.

        * Bug fix: unindexed mp3 files are improperly locked.
