Try reloading the firmware. If you don't have a firmware build handy, Larry
or one of the other good folks from APH will almost certainly give you
instructions and a link.

Subject: [bookport] Dead Bookport: anything I can try

Hi listers,

I am having a serious problem with my Bookport. I just bought it in either
March or April, but I can't seem to revive it. Here is what is going on.

Last night I was reading, and it said something about the buffer, but then
kept on reading. When I turned it off, I didn't think much about it.
However, when I tried to start it again, I kept getting this message, "FS
card fail; file initialization failed. I tried removing and then replacing
the battery. I tried formatting the flash card, putting everything on it
again, even tried another flash card. Then, I tried to reset the Bookport
with the 2 & B button. It gives the same error, and sometimes also says
"memory corrupted.

I don't know what else to try and I use it for working with RFB&D books here
at work as well as for recreation, and I am going to hold things up here at
work if I have to wait for RFB to send cassettes. Needless to say, i am a
nervous wreck at this point

I will be glad to call and talk to someone as well, but I thought I'd put
the problem out on the list just in case there was something that I hadn't
thought of.

The thing is so new I can't understand it, but I do use it a lot. At this
point, I'd be glad to buy a new one rather than wait six weeks to get mine
fixed.

Thanks for listening, and sorry for the harried tone of this email.

Paula..
