[bookcourier] My book courier is not making any sound, nor is it being recognised by my PC

Hi all,
As the subject says, my book courier is not making any sound, nor is it
being recognised by my PC when connected via USB. Could this be because the
batteries in the BC have come to the end of their life, or is it something
that needs more done to solve it?
