BRF is "Braille Ready File" It is a computer file format that is meant to
be used by Braille displays and embossers. The National Library Service
(NLS) of the Library of Congress has many books and magazines available in
this format through their Web Braille service.

See: http://www.loc.gov/nls/

Once you are signed up with the service you can download the files and send
them directly to your Bookcourier, which can then read them aloud.

To answer Louise's other question, Bookcourier does not work at all with
RFB&D books. There was beta software to allow this, but it seems that
project has been cancelled.

Hi,

You can read them directly by uploading them to Book Courier; just indicate
whether you are to upload a .brf file or a Bookshare (DAISY) book. You do
not have to back translate.

Can the courier read .brf books such as those that can be downloaded from
Web Braille and Bookshare or does one have to back translate them to text
first on the computer before they can be transferred to the Book Courier.
Also, does the key that works for RFB and D books on the Bookport also work
for the Courier? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Reading for pleasure or knowledge begins with the turn of a page; or in the
case of a blind person, laying a book face down on the scanner glass!
