I really do find the Chet and Bernie books amusing. Managed to find the cat
story to see how that darned cat gummed up the works so that Chet failed the
K9 course.

Chet and Bernie make quite the team, in spite of the fact Chet never got his
certificate as a K-9 officer (just how the cat got into the testing area no
one seems to know) and Bernie left the police department. But as private
detectives, Chet and Bernie make an unbeatable pair!

When Mrs. Chambliss comes to them the first time her daughter Madison goes
missing, it proves to be premature. Madison, it proved, had foregone
seeing a special showing of Dr. Zhivago to go off with the dropout who
supplied her with marijuana, and then coaxed a friend from her archery team
to drive her home when the dealer made an unwanted pass at her. But a few
days later Madison goes missing once more, and this time both her mother and
her father, Damon Keefor, are upset and want Bernie Little to find their
daughter.

The trail leads them into the deserts of New Mexico and into peril from
members of the Russian Mafia, but between Chet's nose and teeth and Bernie's
brain and self-defense training they save the day!

I found this in print at Goodwill, I think it was, and read it yesterday
while I was home sick as I soaked in the tub. A fun, light mystery. I know
it's available through Bard, as my friend Meesh has been urging me to read
the Chet and Bernie mysteries, and that's where she's downloaded from to her
Victor Stream.
