As for peer-reviewed performances, I hated them, as often my so-called peers
would read into my speeches criticism of themselves I never even thought of.
I had a scene to do from "The Miracle Worker" back in high school. I was
playing Helen, and we were doing the final scene in which Helen finally makes
the connection between water, the word "wa-wa" she'd used as a toddler, and the
finger spelling. I kept forgetting to sweep that pitcher over to spill it all
over the girl playing Annie, and she finally resorted to knocking it over with
her elbow as she struggled with me. Although in the final presentation before
the rest of the sophomore English class I did get her with it myself. She was
glad I got it right this time, but as it did have water in it, she was pretty
wet where when she knocked it over it would spill over the table mostly.
