_The Council of Mirrors_
by Michael Buckley
read by L. J. Ganser

Well, a few months ago I read _The Fairy-Tale Detectives_, the first of
nine books in the Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley, and a short
time ago I purchased _The Council of Mirrors_ on sale, not realizing I
was leaping from book one to book nine in one fell swoop.

Apparently things have not gone particularly well for Sabrina Grimm and
her younger sister Daphne. Mirror, the creation of the Wicked Queen,
has been making a bid for freedom from the spell worked so long ago by
Jacob Grimm to keep the Ever-Afters within the confines of the lands
immediately surrounding the town of Ferryport Landing, and the member
of the group known as the Scarlet Hand have even committed murder in
their attempts to bring down the spell. There is but one chance for
the Grimms to keep Mirror from taking over the world--Daphne, who's not
even eight years old yet, must see to it a coven is formed, and Sabrina
must lead an army against the Scarlet Hand. But they only have
twenty-five supporters--what kind of army can they make out of that?
With Puck insisting he's going to marry Sabrina one day, the girl has
too much on her plate as it is without having to learn to defend
herself an everyone else. And then the Jolly Roger arrives, and it
appears Puck isn't going to allow Peter Pan to settle down near them to
become a rival!

A cute story intended for children, of course, but not the best book
I've read this year. Interesting characterizations for some of our
popular fairy-tale people, though. But the idea that fairy-tale people
like Beauty and the Beast could end up fighting one another and some of
them dying needlessly somehow turned me off. Got it from Audible.
