The Judgment by Dudley W. Buffa. The book is on BARD and bookshare. It is the third in a series of which there are seven so far. The book opens with a funeral. Judge Calvin Jeffries had been murdered. And while he was acknowledged to have a brilliant judicial mind, he was also infamous for his vindictiveness. He had no qualms about ruining a career and had ruined quite a few of them over the years. A second judge is murdered a couple of months later. His murder has striking similarities to that of Jeffries'. A man is arrested for the first crime. He commits suicide while in jail. A man is arrested for the second crime. Joseph Antonelli takes his case. There are two fascinating court room trials. The first is the first trial Antonelli was assigned as a new young lawyer in Jeffries courtroom. Their clash is truly awesome. And while Antonelli survives the experience, others do not. The second is the trial of the young man accused of killing the second judge. Antonelli begins his investigative work with the knowledge of a specific case in mind where the two judicial careers came together. There is also a love story, the plight of the mentally ill as homeless people as well as those who are institutionalized, and much else. An excellent mystery with interesting characters, and plenty of drama. Good reading, Rosemarie
