The Girl Next Door By Brad Parks. The book is on BARD. This is the third book in the Carter Ross Series. Carter Ross is a reporter for a Newark paper. One morning he reads the obituary of a fellow employee, a 42 year old woman who delivered papers. While he did not know her personally, he feels that the passing of a fellow employee deserves more than an obit notice. He attends the funeral, introduces himself to family members and others, and starts asking questions. He learns that the woman was killed by a hit and run driver who hasn't been caught yet and that she was a union activist, who represented the paper carriers. He tries to get a quote from the paper's publisher who is also attending the funeral, but is brusquely brushed off. Ross is assigned a new intern to help him. This new intern, as with the two in the prior two books, is a terrific character. He's huge, a former football player, he's bookish, and one who proses on in person and when in front of a keyboard to such an extent that others don't want to work with him. He has been spending his time reading up to now. Ross puts him to work. The way they work together is interesting and sometimes quite funny. While I think the author could have been a bit more subtle, I pegged the bad guy early on, I still enjoyed the book very much, and I'm looking forward to the fourth book in the series. Good reading, Rosemarie
