Please find attached the agenda for next Tuesday's BMC meeting, starting at
7pm.
I don't think the minutes of the last meeting have been issued. I'll send
them round as soon as I have them. The matters arising are from my notes of
the last meeting.
Best Regards

Thank you for your email, my apologies for my delay in answering but
unfortunately I’ve been in hospital following a set back in my convalescence.
In answer the points you raise:
1. Keys and access, Pete Simpson changed locks on the building and store when
he took over survival events in 2017. I thought you had a set, obviously not. I
will arrange for a set to be cut for you.
2. Tidiness: I totally agree with your comments and can only apologise once
again. As I said when we met in January, I will arrange for the area to be
cleaned up and the scrap removed. This task was meant to have taken place last
Autumn but, unfortunately, I had an accident which still effects my mobility
and was unaware that the planned clean up had not taken place. I will see what
I can organise and let you know dates
3. Continued use: This is something I feel needs discussing at a higher level.
Both Colin and I are conscious that the regular weekend survival activities we
used to organise and run throughout the year are no longer taking place at
Blackhills and that currently the Annual County Survival Camp is the only event
being held. This doesn’t, in our opinion, justify sole occupation and use of
the building and store.
I will raise this separately with Mark(CC) for guidance on what the future is
for Survival and where that future lays.
Colin and I are trying to get a team together to run this years planned
Survival Camp, after Pete Simpson became unexpectedly unavailable but are
struggling to get leaders involved or interested, and bases organised.
As I said, I will sort out the keys, organise for the area to be cleaned up and
the scrap removed, and contact Mark (CC) for guidance on the next steps.
Regards
Keith Hamilton

Subject: BLACKHILLS - SURVIVAL AREA
Keith
It was good to see you again recently up at the Campsite, I hope you are
continuing to progress well after you accident.
I have been asked by the Blackhills Management Committee to write to you
concerning a number of points concerning the Survival Area on our campsite.
1. Keys and Access – We note that we do not have a key on site to your
building. We would ask you to consider lodging one with us so that if there is
an urgent need to carry out a repair to the water or electricity in the area we
do not have to delay this whilst we contact you and arrange for someone to meet
our contractor or volunteer. This is perhaps more pressing in light of the
limited numbers of active Survival Team members.
2. Tidiness – The area around the Survival Stores was highlighted in a recent
site safety walk around as being less than satisfactory. There is a
considerable amount of steel work and other debris laid around the building
some with sharp or badly rusted edges which present an unacceptable hazard to
our site users. It is also a bit unsightly. May we ask as a matter of urgency
that your team attend site and make the area safe, removing the scrap metal and
ensuring that what remains does not present a hazard to our site users. We
would like this completing before Easter if possible, which as you can
appreciate is when the site starts to get busy.
3. Continued Use – We are in the process of reviewing our plans for the site
especially in light of changes to our lease on the woodland areas of
Blackhills. As part of this review we would ask you to clarify County’s
intentions for the Survival Team and its abilities to offer Survival Skills
events on our site. We note that in the recent past there has been little use
of our facilities other than a single weekend’s Survival camp. We wonder
whether that justifies retaining use of the building that you presently have or
whether you may be able to reduce your storage and free put part of the
facility for other uses?
We look forward to your earliest response.
Best Regards
Ian Lund
