(see below) Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA '...Fate had broken his body, but not his spirit...' ---original message--- Top 10 Words or Phrases to Annoy People Who Are Blind Posted May 6th, 2008 by T.ReidI wanted to do a top 10 list for some time now, but I wasn't sure about the topic. Well here is my Top 10 phrases that really annoy blind people. Well, maybe I should
just speak for myself. Post any additional annoying phrases in the comments. 1. Drag and DropI can't stand reading about a new application or a "great new feature" that has recently been added to a piece of software. Only to find out that it works so easily, all
you have to do is "Drag and Drop." Blind translation:Auhhh Sugar Honey Ice Tea, will this work with my screen reader? Will this have a
keyboard equivalent? 2. GraphicsI don't have anything against the use of graphics, I just hate when folks don't use the alt tag to provide a labeled description. For the screen reader user, this is
what we hear. "graphic zlcd1fk379neoiw36xvluq0" or some similar useless garbage. 3. "Check out the flash video"All over the web, I hear these words in the middle of an article. Now it's not that I have anything against flash or video, I would love to check it out. I just don't feel like going through all of the buttons until I stumble across the Play button. The buttons like the graphics discussed above, are rarely ever labeled. All you hear
is Button 5Button 6, Button and so on and so on . Any web developers interested in fixing this, see "Creating Accessible Flash Content," from WebAIM . 4. Touch ScreenYou seen them in products like the iPhone, well the i is for inaccessible.! It's a touch screen, do I need to explain further. It requires eye hand coordination.
I have the hand, but that only puts me half way there. 5. ITunesWell I already said what the i stands for right? I believe I heard that there was some accessibility built into one of the more recent releases, but they use DRM and this product is so wrapped up with the iPods. I just thought I would "hate on 'em"
6. Cash Transactions ONLYObviously you don't see this on the web. This was really just a way to raise the
issue of advocating for a modification to the U.S. currency to make it accessible for all. Please don't tell me about money identifiers either, I carry enough electronics
already. I think it's beginning to interfere with the titanium in my head. 7. "You are amazing"I don't have any problems hearing this in the right situation for the right things
(If you know what I mean?)When someone "compliments" me when they don't even no me, just based on the fact that I am blind and I can walk and speak and even have a sense of humor. Well that
just pisses me off! 8. Buffet LineI'm not talking about one of those buffets that has a person serving behind each
station. Uh Uh! It's those that simply have a utensil to serve yourself I have to hold my plate, my cane, figure out what's in the tray. Need I say more? 9. "Can He or Can SheIt is a very strange, uncomfortable and angering feeling the first time someone referred to me as if I weren't there. I remember being at a doctor's office and the receptionist
asked my wife if I had a insurance card. "Does he." Wow! This cannot be tolerated! And here it is. 10. That way, over thereDuring my orientation and mobility training, a "helpful" stranger who over heard that I was looking for a specific store, yells out from about half a block away,
"Buddy, it's over there, go over there."If this requires more explanation, you should probably just drag and drop your butt
