FWIW, I will actually be flying back from Cape Town on that day after my whole bike club is basically flying down thereto on Friday October 12 to go to our national prizegiving function which is at that chapter this year, but anyway - thought I may as well pass this on to you.

Stay well

Opening eyes to the needs of the blind

One of the UK's leading blindness charities, Sightsavers International, is asking churches across the UK to mark World Sight Day on 14 October.

BBC Songs of Praise presenter Diane Louise Jordan is lending her support to this year's event.

"I was shocked to learn there are approximately 37 million blind people in the world, yet 75% of all blindness is preventable," she says. "World Sight Day takes place every year to draw attention to these staggering facts, and your church can help mark the occasion by holding a Sightsavers Sunday service.

"It would be fantastic if you could get involved, your themed prayers, readings and hymns would mean so much."

Sightsavers Sunday will give churches an opportunity to discuss some of the wider issues around disability in the developing world, such as how being blind
can lead to missing out on an education and subsequently a livelihood.

People who are blind or visually impaired in the developing world are often marginalised within their own communities, consequently making them at greater
risk of social exclusion and isolation.

A themed Sightsavers Sunday pack for 14 October, including suggestions for appropriate songs, readings and activities, and a DVD can be obtained by contacting
