This one offers free audio books read by volunteers - limited collection, but
still:

Gutenberg.org offers various formats of books old enough to be past copyright
age:

This guy reckons he's lending you the books - mostly in various text formats:

Books in text formats can easily enough be converted into MP3 audio files using
most of the voices you happen to have installed on your machine, using
something like DSpeech, or eSpeak:

I am trying out the audible.com website and registration went fine. However,
when trying to download a book, it comes up with an error saying that they
cannot sell to my country of origin - namely South-Africa.
How do the rest of you South-Africans get the books you want from this
website??
