While Salem started out as an owner of religious stations, they have
branched out to conservative talk (the religious right) as well as some
other formats such as oldies
(one of my Hawaii examples) and even sports stations.
If you hear the moniker SRN news as a part of newscasts anywhere, SRN =
Salem Radio Network as the supplier of the newscast.
Salem, for the most part, has preserved stations that it has obtained that
havecome with historic call letters such as WIND Chicago (the frequency
call letters when the station signed on in the 1920s as WIND Gary, In
where the station's transmitter still remains), WMCA New York and KGU
Honolulu.
In several markets, they have served as overflow outlets for stations with
conflicts with sports games; and Salem now in a big way has embraced
internet streaming.
