(Columbia) - A Columbia woman has published her first book despite the fact
that she's legally blind.

Regina Thomas says her belief in God helped her overcome the struggles of being
handicapped and it's the basis of her first book, "Walking By Faith."

"If I can do it, you can do it. I'm in a situation where I"m categorized as
handicapped, and it doesn't bother me," Thomas said.

Thomas was born with a condition called retinitis pigmentosa, but it was only
in recent years that she lost almost all of her vision. What's left is
permanently blurred and she can only see two or three words at a time on an
entire page of writing.

"To get out of bed, to walk to the door, to walk to the car, everything I do is
a struggle because I have to think about it first."

Despite that, Thomas pushed on with her desires to publish a book. In the end,
she hopes it proves that people with a handicap don't have to give up hope.

"I hope it inspires them to not lay their life down but to go on, and do, and
recapture some of those dreams they thought they'd lost," Thomas said.

"Walking By Faith" will be available in numerous bookstores in the coming weeks.
