Filmmaker to introduce film, hold Q&A session at Halloween Horror Picture Show
October 19

TAMPA, Florida-Overcoming obstacles and surpassing expectations is something
filmmaker Joseph M. Monks has been doing for years. Beginning with a small,
upstart comic book publishing company in the early 1990s, Monks has continued
to be a producer of horror stories-both prose and illustrated-since he first
hit the publishing scene in 1989. Now, despite having lost his eyesight, the
writer-turned-director continues to break new ground and defy the odds, having
produced a film that will see its world premiere screening at the 5th Annual
Halloween Horror Picture Show taking place at the Channelside Cinemas on
Friday, October 19th, at 9:30 p.m.

Monks, who lost his eyesight in 2002 after a long battle with diabetic
retinopathy, chose to tackle film after returning to the comic book field to
rave reviews for his work in Zacherley's Midnight Terrors. His first feature
(he has had a previous screenplay adapted for a television pilot), centers on
16-year-old Julia Jennings, the daughter of a U.S. congressman, who runs away
on the eve of his bid for reelection. Once on the streets of New York City,
however, she finds life outside the media spotlight is even more terrifying,
when she is kidnapped by a sadistic serial killer with a devastating secret.
Part horror film, part psychological thriller, The Bunker has begun generating
buzz in the industry not only because of the curiosity factor, but due to the
quality of the film itself. With critical praise coming from the likes of
FANGORIA's Tom Carnell, Rue Morgue Magazine, The Hacker's Source, and other
genre trades, the word has spread to the mainstream, where Monks has been
featured in the Miami Herald, and been a phone guest on the nationally
syndicated Opie & Anthony radio program.

Monks will introduce The Bunker, and hold a Q&A session following the
screening. For more information on the Halloween Horror Picture Show Film
