I discovered what it was which was causing the "stop filtering button" to not go away when clicked, and Eudora to hang. Sounds, true, but not because of the sounds, but because another program was resident, though not doing anything, somehow effected Eudora when the sounds were initiated. The program is Replay AV 8 and though it was not "recording" or "capturing" it was set too and Eudora didn't like it, that is Eudora 7.1.0.9. When Replay AV 8 was resident, Eudora, when it came time to play a sound which was actuated by a filter would hang, though the program would say "0" messages left to filter, in truth it would hang even though the filter actions hadn't completed successfully since the messages would then reside in the inbox, or, maybe one or 2 messages or copies of them might get filtered, the mailboxes which had messages delivered to them would have corrupted *.toc files since every time Eudora would then be restored, it would rebuild the *.toc files of the effected mailboxes. Convoluted, true, but there it is. So, if any of you run Replay AV 8 you may have to temporarily not run Eudora or temporarily not run filters with sounds associated with them, or something, since there is a definite conflict.
