Dear [fill in the name],
I am writing to you on behalf of the Blind Equestrian Community (BEC) to let
you know about our upcoming Zoom meeting featuring Andrew Burfitt and Sue-Ellen
Lovett. They will be introducing and discussing the value of the DAMA system
that Andrew created and produces and Sue-Ellen uses as a blind rider. The
Dressage Arena Marker Announcer system has been used in FEI competitions
successfully as well as in various therapeutic riding centers around Australia.
It is the first technological system designed to help identify arena markers
for riders with low or no vision and as such it helps level the playing field.
Normally, to compete and train blind riders need to find a lot of people (up to
12) willing to commit the time and learn the techniques necessary to be living
letters. This issue has made it very difficult for blind riders to travel to
compete and even to train at home accurately. The DAMA system is easy to
transport and set up and requires only one person to operate. This is a huge
step forward towards equity for this community!
Naturally, we at the BEC are very excited to learn that this system exists and
are so happy that Andrew and Sue-Ellen are willing to answer our questions and
talk about how the DAMA system has been used by both individual riders and
dressage organizations as well as by various therapeutic centers. We are
wondering how the dressage community at large in the US may be able to support
blind riders by having such a system available for use.
Please consider joining us at this zoom meeting and feel free to invite anyone
you think may be interested in learning more about the DAMA system. The meeting
will be recorded, so for those interested but unable to attend, they can
contact Michelle LaBarre at
michellelabarre@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:michellelabarre@xxxxxxxxx> for a copy of the
recording.
The meeting is at 8 pm eastern on Thursday July 14.

Please keep this letter until the meeting so that you have the zoom link
available. We will not be able to resend the zoom link to everyone planning on
attending.
Thank you for considering this invitation and if you have any further questions
you can either ask me or contact Michelle at the above email address.
Hopefully we will ‘see’ you Thursday July 14th!
Sincerely,
