Israeli Attacks Leaving Most Gazans Hungry - UN Body

CAIRO (AFP)--Israel's onslaught in the Gaza Strip has left most of the 1.5 million people living there in need of food, but lack of security is hampering efforts to distribute aid supplies, a U.N. spokeswoman said Friday.

The Israeli offensive, which has killed at least 785 Palestinians, has made at least 80% of the population dependent on donated food, said Nancy Ronan, spokeswoman with the U.N.'s World Food Program.

"The need on the ground is dire," she told AFP from Egypt's Rafah border crossing with Gaza, through which aid has passed since the conflict began.

"Eighty percent of the population is in need right now, maybe even beyond that," she said. "We got food into Gaza, but we now have a problem distributing it because of the security situation."

A U.N. refugee agency and the International Committee for the Red Cross, or ICRC, have said they would suspend or temporarily restrict their operations in the territory because of Israeli attacks.

It is no doubt redundant to assert that Israel's Prime Minister, Ariel
Sharon, is a terrorist. After all, the evidence is displayed on the
television news almost every night.

He has in fact always been a terrorist
