Someone, I can't remember who, said that 2016 might be the year of
Braille and I believe this is absolutely correct. There are several
exciting product announcements which I unfortunately don't have time to
repost or even accurately summarize. If you're interested,
www.BlindBargains.com contains written summaries and audio interviews
which will give you a good indication of what's being released. To
quickly summarize, I'm hearing about two Android-based notetakers, one
from National Braille Press and the other from Humanware called the
BrailleNote Touch. Also, a russian product is soon to be released which
is a combination of a Focus 14 Blue display along with a Windows 10
docking station, providing a notetaker running Windows 10 with JAWS as
the screen reader. Also, FS and APH are offering a subscription service
for JAWS and/or MAGic, primarily aimed at students in 12th grade or
lower. It's exciting stuff and I've barely gone through all of the
material but I'm quite excited that we're going to see modern-day
devices that resemble a Braille Lite but which are running Android or
Windows.
