[blind-philly-comp] For Window-Eyes Users: Lots of Updates to Window-Eyes Apps

Window-Eyes, to me, is one of the great and more troubling mysteries of the blindness assistive technology landscape at the moment. It has received very few updates since GW Micro became part of AI Squared, which in turn has now become merged with VFO, which also produces the JAWS screen reader. While JAWS continues to receive regular updates containing many bug fixes as well as fabulous enhancements, Window-Eyes seems to be languishing.

Its last update, version 9.5.4, was released in January and only included a few enhancements. However, a few weeks ago the GWMicro.com Web site was down briefly. When it returned, we were presented with an older version of the site, which listed version 9.4 as the newly released version. While the free Window-Eyes for Office is still offering version 9.5.4, the GWMicro Web site still lists version 9.4 as the latest version. Oddly enough, many of the apps for Window-Eyes have been recently updated. Therefore, users of Window-Eyes should go into the Apps menu to update any apps which you have installed.
