When I first heard about the Envision `,AI app my initial reaction was
that it sounded like a clone of the popular Seeing AI app. Whereas
Seeing AI is free of cost the Envision app uses a subscription model,
where you can pay for a monthly, annual or lifetime subscription. At
first I thought that they were crazy to try and compete with Seeing AI
by charging for their app. However, whereas Seeing AI doesn't seem to
come out with regular updates I noticed that Envision AI was releasing
updates on a fairly regular basis. When I saw that they were offering
their subscriptions for 30 percent off during the holiday season I
decided to try it out. I've primarily been working with what Seeing AI
calls the short text feature. While I can't say that it's necessarily
better there is one thing that I like about it which, depending on your
perspective, you may find to be either very helpful or very annoying.
Suppose that you want to read a computer monitor with a specific message
which is being displayed, such as "updating Windows. Please don't turn
off your PC." With Seeing AI, it will read that message once and will
not read it again unless something on your monitor changes. This means
that you will need to move your phone away from and then back to the
screen in case the text sounded garbled due to the position of the
phone. With Envision AI, it will continue to read the screen repeatedly.
I actually like this feature. It means that if the text sounds garbled
due to the way I'm holding the phone I can reposition it and hear how
the text is continuously being announced, which will tell me in real
time if I'm holding the phone at a proper angle.
