TEK TALK WELCOMES BRIAN CHARLSON OF THE CARROLL CENTER FOR THE BLIND TO
DISCUSS THE AMAZON KINDLE FIRE
During the past couple of years, Amazon has introduced a number of
interesting products to its customers including its customers who are
blind or visually impaired.
There are the family of devices collectively called Alexa, the Echo, the
Tap and the Dot. All of which allow you to access music, purchase
products and to play games and keep track of lists. There are two TV
devices, the Fire TV and the Fire Stick, both of which, using the same
voice commands and “Alexa” voice, allow you to access Netflix, YouTube
and other internet-based video services.
The third group of devices are the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HDX.
These devices are similar to the iPad and iPad Mini from Apple but run
on the Android Operating System and use the Talkback screen reader. Like
similar tablet devices, you can access things through a wireless
connection or a cellular connection. In addition, you can access Kindle
publications through the Wisper Net without taking-on additional charges.
One of the best things about all of these new devices is their price.
None of them go over $300 and the Alexa Dot cost less than $50. Come

you and why you should be asking for one for Christmas.

If you are a first-time user of the Talking Communities Online
Conferencing software, there is a small, safe software program that you
need to download and then run. A link to the software is available on
every entry screen to the Accessible World online rooms.
All online interactive programs are free of charge, and open to anyone
worldwide having an Internet connection, a computer, speakers, and a
sound card. Those with microphones can interact audibly with the
presenters and others in the virtual audience or text chat with the
attendees. To speak to us, hold down the control key and talk; then let
