Hi, David; 

I figured as much. I may call them before the end of July because I'm
considering also looking into Zoom Text as another back-up screen reader,
just in case I have any problems with N-V-D-A. I've been so busy lately,
with relatives visiting this weekend and preparing for their arrival, I
haven't had a chance to get and install the latest version of N-V-D-A yet
but hoping to do that this week. I'm sure it has a file menu like other
screen readers so I can search for upgrades and also find tutorials for
using newer versions. I want to be as familiar with it as I am using W.E.

Hi, Lillian.

As far as development from VFO, Window-Eyes is pretty much a dead product.
Since you're using Windows 8.1, I don't see any reason why it would stop
working on your computer and it should continue to function reliably as long
as you're running Windows 8.1. Let us know if you have any NVDA questions
but remember that you're entitled to a free version of JAWS 18 if you're a
user of Window-Eyes 9.X.

Lillian,

In general, the various voices don't clash with one another. If you use an
app like Reverb, Alexa's voice is likely the only voice you'll hear since
there's nothing for VoiceOver to read while Alexa is speaking. One exception
to this is the Cortana app for iOS. When you ask Cortana a question, such as
"what time is it", you hear her response, along with VoiceOver reading her
visual responses on the screen. I don't actually blame Microsoft for this,
as VoiceOver normally tries to read new content which appears on your
device's screen.

The Google Assistant is nice in that, when you ask it a question, you hear
her answer, followed by a sound indicating that the screen is switching over
to visual information but you hear her response first.

As I'm writing this I'm wondering if we should have a phone meeting about
the various voice assistants, their pros and cons and how to access them.

Maybe I'll wait and see how successful you are attempting that before I do.
My luck, they'll speak at the same time and produce chaos, similar to trying
to run two different screen readers at once. Take care.

Good evening everyone,

 

                We're considering adding the Amazon App to our iDevices
running Voiceover and Siri. We currently own the iPhone 6+ and an iPod Air2.
Since the Amazon App includes Alexa naturally we want to use it. We'd be
curious to hear if anyone has used Apple iDevices successfully with Alexa,
Siri, and Voiceover running simultainiously. I discovered that Alexa has
capabilities (Skills) not available in Siri such as the ability to dictate
passcodes into fields within the Amazon App. Your successful stories,
cautionary tales concerning running such a cocktail and any other feedback
will be appreciated. All the best.
