I don't think he's charming or persuasive. I think he has opinions and the
kind of personality that appeal to people who are feeling cheated by life
and who respond with emotion, rather than intelligence. His success, if you
can call it that, has to do with the power of money. Lisstening to him talk,
makes my skin crawl.

During the first debate between the Republican candidates for president,
back early in the 2016 campaign period, the first question offered Donald
Trump had to do with his habit of using slurs toward women such as "fat
pig," "dog," and so on. Trump interrupted the litany of ignoble
descriptions by raising his index finger and quipping, "Only Rosie
O'Donnell."
That caught the attention of Scott Adams, whose daily comic strip "Dilbert"
is so popular among those who still read newspapers. Adams saw this as a
sign of supreme capability in persuading other people, and began to follow
Trump's career as a politician with interest, predicting that Trump would
win the election.
_Win Bigly_ is Adam's text on how to become a top-grade persuader, using
examples of Trump's rhetoric to demonstrate how well he feels Trump is
capable of persuading others to his point of view, and how we would do well
to follow Trump's example.
Well, I found I can't quite buy it all. Trump definitely is capable of good
comedic timing, and his personal charm has managed to keep him out of
serious trouble in the past--or at least to help mitigate the consequences
of his repeated bouts of bad judgment. But considering how often he says
one thing while following up with something quite different, I find Trump to
be a far better conman than a businessman.
Interesting to read, but I suggest you read it with a big bag of rock salt
by your chair.
