NATO was set up as a response to the Soviet Union, supposedly as a defense.
However, the Soviet Union never threatened to attack the US. It was the US
and some European countries that sent troops to Russia during the Russian
revolution to try to save it for the Tsar. After NATO was formed, Russia set
up the Warsaw pact to defend against NATO. After the Soviet Union was
disbanded and Russia was no longer a Communist country, there was no need
for NATO. At that point, NATO was expanded hugely and other reasons for its
existence were manufactured. It is now a means to maintain US empire. It is
offensive and has a first strike nuclear capability. If you are interested

Hi all,
AS we get reports from the recently concluded NATO summit, I'm thinking back
to the campaign of 2016. One of the few times I agreed with Trump was when
he complained that the US is paying more than its fair share of defense for
Europe. After all, we have for many years contributed to military force in
Europe to a much greater extent than most of Europe's nations including
maintaining troops and bases over there.
But, when looked at as a whole planet, I must also chafe at the horrendous
miss-use of resources both on the part of NATO and Russia on weapons. Never
forget Eisenhower's fair well address in 1960 when he warned us of the evils
of the military industrial complex.
IN honor of that thought, I present to all of you one of my favorite songs
of peace that was and is not nearly as well known as others. It comes from
an album by John Denver entitled "One World that he released in the late
1980's. I may have presented this one here before but it is most timely
today. I dedicate this lovely tune to Donald and Vladimir, neither of whom
are deserving of being called by the titles they hold.
