As I work on the next installment of my series about the history of
Americas foreign propaganda apparatus, it seems that a scandal has boiled
up to the surface in that segment of our stagnant imperial bureaucracy.
The liberal wing of our political establishment is freaking out that a
Donald Trump crony has finally been given clearance to take control of the
U.S. Agency for Global Media, the billion-dollar federal body that oversees
Americas sprawling foreign propaganda apparatus: Radio Free Europe/Radio
Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Voice of America, Radio Televisión Martí, and all
the other former CIA fronts that blanket the world with pro-American radio,
satellite, and internet waves.

People like Andrea Mitchell are worried that having his guy in charge of the
U.S. Agency for Global Media which insiders call You sag em opens the
door to sleazy Trump propagandists like Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka.
The idiots wont be just gawking through the windows anymore, theyve
entered the CIAs psychological warfare building!
Its funny that people worry about U.S. Agency for Global Medias honesty
and independence. Whitewashing fascists, weaponizing nationalism, stoking
religious sectarianism and extremism in order to fight the commies was why
this psychological apparatus was set up by the CIA in the early 1950s. And
that stuff is still going strong there. So having a fascist like Gorka or
some other incompetent Trumpkin running things wouldnt necessarily change
anything at least not as far as the mission is concerned.
Whats funny about this Trump power grab and what isnt mentioned in the
reporting anymore is that it was actually facilitated by President Barack
Obama.

Back in 2016, President Obama signed a bill disbanding the bipartisan board
that had traditionally overseen the agency, centralizing power over it into
the hands of the president. I even tweeted about it back then four years
ago.

Centralizing power over this federal agency had been a longtime project of
some Republicans including Ed Royce, a rightwing Congressman from
California. But Obama and the Democrats went along with it. The reason?
Everyone thought that Hillary Clinton would win the presidential election,
which would give her expanded powers over this sprawling media empire
without interference from the Republicans.
Back then Democrats thought that this centralization good because it
centralized power into the hands of the right people their people. But
then Trump won
and the centralization suddenly became a cause for scandal.
Suddenly people were freaked out. It gave Trump too much power! It was
totalitarian! Hes a dictator.
Ugh. Our ruling class is a joke.

PS: Last week I wrote about how United States regime propaganda outlets
censor Black Lives Matter protests. Although, Ill say that Voice of America
is consistently been a better, more objective source of news and has
indeed covered the protests. Partys this is because Voice of America has
always been a government agency and didnt start out as a covert CIA
psychological warfare project like Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, Radio
Free Asia, or Radio Marti.
