Joe Manchin is always on the wrong side of just about everything. The thing
about my 2 senators and my representative is that I know , almost all of the
time, how they’ll vote and what I say or don’t say, won’t make a bit of
difference. If I’m upset enough, I call or write anyway. But in this case,
because they’re all centrist Democrats, they won’t vote for this Republican
bill to undo the Affordable Care Act.

Subject: [blind-democracy] Today's call: Make sure key Democratic senators
block Trumpcare
I received this a week ago from Credo, and just completed my calls. I learned
that Senators Heitkamp and Donnelly have now let it be known that they will not
support the Republicans in ramming through the Trump No-Care act, but the
person I spoke with in Joe Manchin's office failed to indicate whether he'll be
supporting the act or not.
I am particularly concerned about this foul bill because:
1. It affects my job. Funding for homecare will be cut substantially if this
goes through.
2. It affects the lives of my clients. They will no longer receive the homecare
hours they need and deserve to remain in their own homes rather than being
forced to move into a state-supported nursing home where staffing is likely to
be inadequate for their needs, much less the needs of other proposed residents.
Never mind offering proper nutrition and physical support!
3. It affects my friends' health needs. A friend suffered a severe break to her
ankle two years ago, and although she can now walk normally, she is often in
pain from the metal appliances that were implanted to help support the broken
bones. Plus no care was given her for the back injuries she also suffered at
the time. Due to the Affordable Healthcare Act instituted under Mr. Obama, she
and her husband at least have insurance until both of them reach the age of
sixty-five and can receive Medicare, but if the new act goes through they lose
everything as both have "preexistingg" conditions that will allow insurers to
charge several hundred times what they are paying now and will most likely come
with more exclusions.
4. People making over $200,000 a year do not NEED a tax cut to be made at the
expense of those who have been receiving Medicaid services for years.
5. As a baby-boomer, I'm approaching the time when I, too, am likely to need
Medicaid-supported services and materials. I don't want to find myself unable
to receive them when they might be needed because a bunch of Republican
Congressmen see those who receive government-funded benefits as simple leaches
who are "draining the nation's coffers."
It's time to oppose this crap that Ryan considers to be "reform" when it really
isshortsightednesss masquerading as "fiscal responsibility." What is fiscally
responsible about losing tax revenues from people who can afford to pay them at
the cost of the lives and health of most citizens of the country?

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly are reportedly
joining secret meetings with Republicans looking for ways to cave on Trumpcare.
No Democrat should enable Trump’s lapdogs in Congress to wage war on
America’s seniors, women and low-income people by helping to advance
Trumpcare. Will you call these Senators to make sure they do the right thing?

Dear friend,
Recently, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its projection that if
Republicans succeed in passing Trumpcare, it would leave 23 million Americans
uninsured by 2027.1 But that’s not stopping Mitch McConnell, who is
reportedly trying to ram Trumpcare through the Senate before the end of June.2
Democrats in the Senate have said they will oppose Trumpcare, but three
Democrats are jeopardizing health care coverage for millions.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Bill Cassidy have put together a coalition
of so called moderate senators to rival the Republicans’ all-men health care
†working group†and come up with a compromise bill. Senators Joe Manchin,
Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly are reportedly joining them. 3

The CBO score of the Trumpcare bill, which Paul Ryan rammed through the House,
includes those last-minute changes that Republicans made to the legislation to
appeal to extreme right-wing members of their party and confirms that tens of
millions of Americans would lose coverage. What’s more premiums would
skyrocket for the people who need affordable insurance most.4
The Trumpcare †compromise†is likely to gut health care coverage for
millions by allowing Republican-controlled states to repeal the Affordable Care
Act on their own terms.5 We can’t let that happen. Only 51 votes are needed
to stop Trumpcare, which is why compromise is simply unacceptable.
Call these three Senate Democrats now: Block and resist Trumpcare. Click here
to get started with your calls.
In January, Sens. Collins and Cassidy co-sponsored a bill that would let states
decide to stick with the current Affordable Care Act marketplace structure â€
with less funding from the federal government †or try something else
altogether. The alternative would almost certainly leave everyone but
high-earners †who can put money aside in a Health Savings Account †with few
options.6
Any Trumpcare compromise with Republicans would gut key provisions of the
Affordable Care Act like maternity coverage, mental health care, treatment for
substance abuse and even prescription drug coverage. We are counting on
Democrats to stand strong and protect our health care.
Trumpcare kills. It’s unacceptable for Senate Democrats to cave on healthcare
by negotiating for repeal of any piece of the ACA.
